Our 2026 Artist-in-Residence Shiemara Hogarth returns for the 12 Days of Creativity. Create your own gift basket! Learn about coiling, one of the oldest known textile construction methods, practised in basket-making traditions among indigenous Canadian makers and cultures in Africa, North America, Asia, and beyond. Using provided and upcycled materials including fabric strips, repurposed yarn, cord, and textile offcuts, participants will learn the coiling technique by constructing a small coiled basket or flat rug. Coiling requires no loom, no machinery, and no cutting beyond basic
